Tension in the art world, unlike the real world, is something that is appealing and wanted. You can use tension in your photography to give an extra edge to your photos, conveying excitement, dynamism and activity, and create drama.
In the world of two-dimensional graphic artwork, tension can be used to excite the visual senses apart from the regularly used, basic rules of composition. And the results are often more pleasing to the eye, resulting in more engaging photos.
Sometimes breaking all typical compositional rules, adds an element of extreme tension that can produce magnificent results. Such as severely skewing architectural buildings, or horizontal lines. The viewers of your photo won’t be familiar with such a kind of representation of the world as they know it, hence would be captivated and excited, and visually aroused by your work. If you successfully pull your viewers into your photo and keep them engaged, then you have indeed composed your photo successfully.
