For today’s inspiration fix I’m gonna let you in on the Inspiring black and white street photography of Rui Palha. Born in April 1953, Portugal, and living in Lisbon.
Rui has been into photography since the age of 14. He’s a low profile street photographer inspired by great photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliot Erwitt and Doisneau.
Rui believes that for a person to be able to consider themselves a ture street photographer, they should love and respect the street people, the main actors of the street stage.
When Rui was asked why he always goes with black and white for his street photography, this is what he had to say:
Always black and white, of course. No colour no lie. If you look at a black and white photograph, and if you feel something pleasant or if you like it a lot it’s because the photograph is telling you something without artifices or distractions and, for sure, the photograph is good.
Sometimes a colour photo is appealing just because the combination of the colours is beautiful. This doesn’t mean that I don’t like colour photos. There are great photo-reporters using colours. But I only use black and white.
This also reminds of a great saying by Ted Grant:
When you photograph people in colour, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!
Just take a look at Rui’s photography. Isn’t he a street god or what?!!
I saw this post on iphone’s reader and came here to do the comment
