The moon, which is the only celestial body on which humans have landed, is the largest and brightest object in the sky. However, from where we stand it can look small. Photographing the moon, considering its relative size to us, makes it a bit of a challenge. Being brightly lit by the sun, moon photography is no different than any other genre of photography.
The only factor is trying to virtually come close to it enough that it takes a significant form and shape in our photographs. This is mainly achieved by using a long lens. The longer the lens, the larger and more detailed the moon will appear.
Below are a few examples of beautiful moon photography that I’ve put together to share with you guys. If you have some good shots that you’ve taken yourself, we would love to take a look as well. Please do share links to those in the comments below.
Enjoy…

thank you guys glad you like!
thanks for stopping by =)
Thanks for sharing! I thought I’d explain the technique I used to capture the 2 images of mine you’ve included. These are single exposures that include long lenses on the moon for brief periods and then longer periods with a wider angle lens in a completely different area of sky – separated by an interval of cloaking wherein the lenses where changed and the camera panned. I call it lenswapping and blind-panning. ‘Lens cap trick’ has also been coined to describe this technique when you keep the same lens on and adjust the focal length while capped. You can also use Photoshop as is evidenced in some of the other shots here (nothing wrong with that), but I prefer the element of authenticity that the aforementioned methods can produce. Cheers for a beautiful collection!
woah you really do have an interesting way of capturing these photos. thank you very much jah for sharing your techniques with us. im sure other readers will benefit from your experience as well!
