Hey guys… Happy new month! August was a good month, and The D-Photo has made a lot of new friends and has helped a lot of professional and aspiring photographers take their photography to the next level, and will definitely continue to do so! I did my best to provide you with as many useful posts to help take your photography, and mine, forward. I tried to spread the posts through multiple photography categories such as photography techniques, articles and tips, gear and equipment, and inspiration.

50 year old Shane Venem has gotten back into photography after a long absence. He used to dabble in film photography as a hobby when he was around high school age.

About a year and a half ago Shane decided to buy a digital camera and try his hand at it again. Now, he’s quite hooked.

He’s lucky enough to live in a beautiful area of the California coast generally roaming the coast from Big Sur to San Francisco, but most of his photos are around Santa Cruz where he lives. Sigma makes available its brand new APO 70-200 mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM as the second generation of this large aperture telephoto zoom lens now incorporating Sigma’s Optical Stablization function (OS), their own anti-shake system which makes viewing a stabilized image in the viewfinder possible for Sony and Pentax users if chosen.

Two FLD glass elements, which have the performance equal to fluorite glass have also been added along with three SLD glass elements, all which provide excellent correction of color aberration.

In spite of the additions of all of these features, Sigma has managed to make the lens more compact than its predecessor, measuring only 7.8” in length…

Photography lighting tips: Use a reflector

In photography and cinematography, a reflector is an improvised or specialized reflective surface used to redirect light towards a given subject or scene either to create a broader more diffused light source, or to control harsh shadows casted on your scene.

Reflectivity intensity usually depends on the reflector’s surface texture and color, and its positioning relative to your scene.

If positioned in front of a light source with the light source facing away from the subject or scene, reflectors create a broader more diffused light by bouncing it off softly illuminating the scene.

This allows easy travel to some of the best beaches in the world, namely the Gold and Sunshine Coasts which provide golden beaches, crystal clear water and never ending sunshine! Michael has been a keen photographer from a very early age, it is his passion for recent travel which has taken his photography to another level.

Rising at the crack of dawn to capture the first rays of sunlight, trekking for hours on end in dense jungle in northern Thailand is just an insight into the dedication Michael gives to capture that perfect image and display nature in all its glory.
