Newest Magnum Photos member Christopher Anderson

Congrats to Christopher Anderson who became a Magnum Photos member at their latest annual meeting a few days ago.

Magnum photos – founded back in 1947 by French photographer and father of modern photojournalism Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, Robert Capa, David Seymour, and William Vandivert – is an international photographic cooperative owned by its member-photographers, with headquarters in Paris, New York, London, and Tokyo.

Every year magnum photographers meet up at one of the headquarter offices, and one day of this annual meeting is dedicated to nominating new member photographers’ portfolios.

Once successfully elected, the photographer receives an invitation to become a new member photographer.

Last annual meeting resulted in Christopher Anderson as a Magnum Photos member after having joined Magnum Photos back in 2005.

Born in British Columbia, 40 year-old Christopher Anderson worked as a photographer for a small Colorado newspaper during the early 90′s. Christopher soon realized he would rather work on his own as a freelancer, and started taking on freelance and contract photography jobs.

Christopher has documented several important humanitarian and environmental issues such as the situation of the Afghan refugees, and Gaza stone-throwers, and was also named as Kodak’s young photographer of the year.

Christopher has received a number of awards such as Robert Capa Gold Medal in 2000, and Visa d’Or, Visa Pour l’Image, Perpignan in 2001.

To take a look at Christopher’s photographic work you can check out his page on Magnum Photos right here.

To submit your portfolio for consideration, you can check out Magnum Photos Submissions page right here.

Successful applicants will be invited to become a Nominee Member, a category of membership which presents an opportunity for Magnum and the individual to both get to know each other.
